Why Offshore Demands More
Saltwater Corrosion
Offshore environments expose fittings to chloride-rich seawater 24/7. Standard zinc plating fails within months. Only marine-grade alloys survive.
Extreme Pressure Cycles
Drilling and subsea hydraulics operate under sustained high pressure with dynamic load cycles. Weld-seam fittings crack. Weld-free blanks eliminate this risk entirely.
Traceability & Audit
Regulatory bodies and major operators require full material traceability -- heat numbers, mill certificates, lot-level QC records -- for every fitting installed.
Third-Party Compliance
Oil majors and EPC contractors mandate third-party inspection, SGS test reports, and certification packages before any fitting enters a critical system.
H2S / Chemical Media
Sour gas and chemical injection lines require materials resistant to hydrogen sulfide stress cracking. SS316 with verified composition is the standard specification.
Zero Downtime Tolerance
A single fitting failure on an offshore platform can cost $500K+ per day in lost production. There is no tolerance for leaks, cracks, or blow-offs in this environment.
SS316: The Offshore Standard
SS316 (316L) stainless steel contains 2-3% molybdenum, providing superior resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion compared to SS304. Liberfitting sources certified electric furnace steel with full mill certificates, ensuring verified composition for every heat.
Mo content 2.0-3.0% per ASTM A276/A479 -- proven resistance to seawater, brine, and chloride-laden environments.
Electric furnace steel processed into weld-free blanks. No seam, no micro-crack initiation points -- critical for cyclic pressure loading.
For carbon steel components in aggressive environments: zinc-nickel plating exceeds 700 hours salt spray -- 7× the performance of standard zinc.
Every heat of raw material arrives with a mill certificate. Chemical composition, mechanical properties, and heat number documented before production begins.
| Material / Treatment | Salt Spray | Offshore Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Zinc Plating | 96 h | Limited |
| CR3+ Zinc + Sealant | 96+ h | Moderate |
| Zinc-Nickel Alloy Plating | 700+ h | High |
| SS316 Stainless Steel Recommended | 1000+ h | Optimal |
Batch Traceability & Heat Number Management
Every fitting shipped to oil & gas or offshore applications carries a documented chain of custody -- from raw steel heat to finished part lot number -- enabling full backward traceability for audits and incident investigations.
